The New Jersey and Southwest chapters worked in partnership on a pediatric medical mission in Yantalo, Peru in October 2017.  The ophthalmology team consisted of Dr. Jay Calesnick, Dr. Mark Engel, Dr. Michelle Misher-Harris, Dr. Rafael Olivares, and Cathy Bartola, RN.  The team screened forty-five children and ultimately performed twenty-three procedures on twenty patients for issues such as strabismus, ptosis, blocked tear ducts, and more.  The plastics team was comprised of volunteers from the Southwest Chapter.  Dr. George Hoer, the plastic surgeon, completed twenty-one cases — a mixture of cleft lips, palates, burn contractures, and smaller cases.
