Healing the Children New Jersey sent thirty volunteers to the Centro Medico Central Romana in La Romana in October.  The team, led by Dr. Mark Engel, performed dozens of corrective surgeries on children born with strabismus and ptosis.  They also ran an eye clinic that provided glasses to nearly 100 children. HTCNJ has sent medical teams to the Dominican Republic since 1992 and has improved the lives of over 12,500 children. The medical trip was sponsored by the Association of Surgical Technologists.
